Bellway has reached its goal of raising £3 million for Cancer Research UK with several months in hand.
Since adopting Cancer Research UK as its nominated charity in 2016, Bellway employees have dedicated their fundraising efforts to the cause and in 2021 the housebuilder set a target of hitting £3 million raised by the end of 2023.
Bellway has exceeded this goal and has now set its sights on raising a total of £4 million by the end of 2024.
“I’d like to congratulate all of the Bellway staff who have taken the time to help raise this amazing total for Cancer Research UK. £3 million is a huge achievement and we are so pleased and proud to have reached this milestone.
Cancer touches the lives of so many people, which is why Cancer Research UK has been such an important cause for our colleagues to support. We hope the money we have raised will make a difference to the invaluable research and treatment the charity funds and we now look forward to reaching our next fundraising goal.”
Jason Honeyman, Chief Executive Officer for Bellway
A host of events and challenges have helped Bellway reach the £3 million mark. Fundraising highlights include:
South West: Kilimanjaro Climb
A Bellway sales advisor raised more than £6,000 after reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Rachael Spencer, who works at Bellway’s Mead Fields development, completed the challenge in September 2022 as part of a week-long expedition to the highest peak in Africa.
She raised £2,000 for Cancer Research UK, which Bellway then double matched to boost her fundraising total to £6,000.
South East: Charity Golf Day
Bellway Thames Gateway hosted a golf day in September 2022 which raised £13,437.45.
Teams made up of Bellway staff, sub-contractors and friends gathered for the event at Westerham Golf Club in Westerham, Kent.
The amount raised on the day was matched by Bellway Group, resulting in the total donation of over £13,000.
Wales: Summer Stride
Over 20 employees from the Wales division completed an eight-kilometre charity walk from England to Wales in July 2021.
The group set off from the village of Aust in South Gloucestershire and ended their journey at the Coach and Horses pub in Chepstow.
The team raised over £5,000 for the charity from this fundraising event alone.
North East: Charity Ball
Bellway North East raised over £20,000 at its annual ball in Newcastle.
Staff and partners attended the event at the Crowne Plaza Newcastle in Forth Street in September 2022.
On the night, which had a circus theme and featured an acrobat on a raised stage, there was a raffle with prizes including a family day pass for Alnwick Castle and afternoon tea for two at the 1910 Restaurant in Whitley Bay.
